Our niece had her first baby two weeks ago. She had found out she was pregnant very early in the pregnancy, so she has been planning and preparing for the baby’s arrival for months. She had an ultra sound done early and the doctor told my niece and her husband that they were going to have a boy.

The couple sold their small home and built a new home in a smaller community. They were able to move into the home at the end of her eighth month of the pregnancy. Due to the late stage she did not have time to change the paint in the baby’s room, also because of preparing for the move as well as setting up a new home she requested to have a baby shower after the baby was born. This turned out to be a good request because the baby is a girl.

Our niece has been talking about having a boy for so many months that I had purchased an outfit for a boy. I took the outfit back and told the clerk what had happened. She stated that this happens more often than people think and that they often have gifts returned before they are given. She told me to look around and we would take care of the refund when I found a replacement item. There were several outfits for girls available, however I spotted a pink quilt that was beautiful. A similar blanket had been displayed in the window the first time I visited the store and it was quite expensive. The pink quilt was packaged and in a clearance bin. I asked the store clerk why the pink quilt was on clearance. She said that their policy is that all display items are sold as clearance items once they are no longer on display. I asked her if I could look at the pink quilt to make sure that there was nothing wrong with it. The pink quilt was placed in a zipped clear plastic bag. The clerk zipped it opened and spread it out on the service counter for me. It was in perfect shape. The pink quilt featured several shades of pink in a variety of prints that were sewn in blocks. The back of the quilt was white with pink letters from the alphabet on it. The edging was a soft pink satin. The pink quilt was on clearance for half the original price. I decided that I would buy this as the gift.

My niece loved the pink quilt. She laughed when I told her the story of returning the boys outfit. She said that many of her friends and other family members had told her the same thing. She was glad that she did not have the shower prior to her daughter being born. She had purchased several things for a boy herself and had washed them in preparation for the baby. She said that she would wrap the baby in the pink quilt when she dressed her in some of the blue things she had so people would know she is a girl.
